Here’s a photo from the iNaturalistMX website<\/a> of the Cabez\u00f3n Mexicano (Pachyramphus major<\/em>), known in English as the grey-collared becard. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Notice the size of the bird’s head in proportion to its body. That’s why it’s called “Cabez\u00f3n”, or “big head”. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The photo was taken February 24th, 2026, in the eastern state of Quintana Roo, in the municipio<\/em> of Solidaridad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Notice how the bird ranges from Mexico to Nicaragua. It has also shown up as a “vagrant” in Texas and Arizona. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Pachyramphus major<\/em> has several names. In Honduras it’s called the cabez\u00f3n collar gris<\/em>, in Nicaragua the cabez\u00f3n collarejo<\/em>, and in Mexico the anamb\u00e9 mexicano<\/em>, cabez\u00f3n cuelligr\u00eds<\/em>, mosquero-cabez\u00f3n mexicano<\/em> and of course the Cabez\u00f3n Mexicano. In English it’s called the grey-collared becard. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
