The Trump administration is fighting the Mexican cartels. But I never hear Trump talk about the massive American contribution to the Mexican cartels. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

U.S. drug addicts, after all, are the main consumers of the drugs sold by Mexican cartels. That makes American drug users the main financiers of the Mexican drug cartels. I wish President Trump would point that out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rising American demand for cocaine is one of the reasons that the CJNG (C\u00e1rtel de Jalisco Nueva Generaci\u00f3n<\/em>) became the most powerful Mexican cartel. (CJNG Passes Sinaloa Cartel as Mexico\u2019s #1 Drug Cartel \u2013 Thanks in Part to American Cocaine Consumers<\/a>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now the boss of the CJNG cartel is a U.S.-born dual citizen of the U.S. and Mexico, Juan Carlos Valencia Gonzalez (see here<\/a>).

There are American citizens working for and with the cartels.

This chart, based on U.S. government data, shows, the majority of people arrested in 2024 for drug trafficking in the U.S. were American citizens:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here’s a recent case from Del Rio, Texas in which the alleged smuggler was an American citizen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Del Rio is located on the Rio Grande, across the river from Mexico’s Ciudad Acuna. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This incident was recently reported by US Customs and Border Protection<\/a>: “U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Office of Field Operations officers at Del Rio Port of Entry recently seized more than $1.7 million in cocaine.”<\/strong>

Here’s how it went down : “The seizure occurred on Aug. 4\u00a0at\u00a0the\u00a0Del Rio\u00a0International Bridge when a CBP officer referred\u00a0a\u00a02013 Dodge Durango driven by a 29-year-old male United States citizen for secondary inspection. CBP officers conducted a secondary examination\u00a0of the vehicle\u00a0that included utilization\u00a0of\u00a0a nonintrusive inspection system.\u00a0Upon\u00a0a\u00a0physical examination, CBP officers discovered\u00a049\u00a0packages containing a total of\u00a0129.67\u00a0pounds of alleged cocaine hidden\u00a0within\u00a0the quarter panels of\u00a0the\u00a0vehicle. The\u00a0cocaine\u00a0had a\u00a0combined estimated\u00a0street value of $1,731,425. CBP\u00a0seized\u00a0the narcotics. Homeland Security Investigations special agents have made one arrest and have initiated a criminal investigation.”<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n

Notice, it was a U.S. citizen carting the cocaine across the border. If we don’t recognize the American contribution to the Mexican cartels, how can we effectively fight them? <\/p>\n\n\n\n
